June 3, 2016

CLYMER - In honor of National Military Appreciation Week, the Chautauqua Regional Economic Development Corporation announced a special promotion for former and active military members and first responders planning to attend the 2016 LECOM Health Challenge Tour event at Peek'n Peak Resort the week of July 4-10.

On Thursday, July 7, former and active members of the military and active first responders - and their spouses - will receive free admission to the tournament and passes to the Merit Industries Military and First Responders Appreciation Tent overlooking the 18th fairway.

"From supporting the U.S. armed forces by manufacturing and supplying products used to protect and defend the freedoms of U.S. citizens, to now offering a VIP experience to our countries greatest - we are proud to support military members and first responders at this year's LECOM Health Challenge," said Merit Industries President Rob Churchill.

The Merit Industries Military Appreciation tent, courtesy of Erie, Pennsylvania-based Merit Industries, will include complimentary food and beverage service from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

"Knowing Western New Yorkers deep-rooted connections to the military and area first responders, we saw this as an opportunity to give back to a community that has sacrificed so much to protect the safety of not only Western New York but our entire nation," said tournament spokesperson and CEO of the Chautauqua Region Economic Development Corporation (CREDC) Kevin Sanvidge.

A valid government-issued ID is required for all attendees, and the offer for military members extends to the following groups:

All U.S. Military Active Duty (Reserve/National Guard)

All U.S. Military Retired (Reserve/National Guard)

All U.S. Military Veterans with a VA Identification Card

New Lathe to Accommodate Growing Business

To keep up with our growing business, Merit just purchased an additional lathe.  This is our second largest lathe with abilities to turn 20” diameter and up to 28” long.  It produces powerful low end torque for heavy cuts as well as high speed rotation for improved surface finishes.  This new equipment has features to increase accuracy and enable heavy cutting.

Adding another machine will increase efficiency, allowing Merit to provide its customers with quick turnarounds and on-time delivery.

Meet our Newest Designer

In September 2015 we welcomed the newest addition of the Merit family, Craig Caldwell.  Craig will serve as our design engineer, helping customers convert visions and ideas to drawings.
As part of the collaborative efforts between our engineering department and our customers, we have created an innovative variation of a tool used on engine locomotives.  Merit supplied a plastic version of the part to the customer printed with a 3D printer.  By suggesting this be made from plastic instead of steel, it gave our customer the ability to have it produced in a bright color and allowed for production costs to be significantly decreased.
Merit’s sales team prides itself on always being a step ahead.  Contact us with a request to quote the design and building of your next project!
